OPERATION TOP SHELF

Sixty-two percent of teachers regularly see children who come to school hungry because they are not getting enough to eat at home. On the days when school is in session, these children are offered free or reduced cost lunches. But on the weekend, these same children are at risk for weekend hunger. For this reason, a local group of concerned citizens created Operation Top Shelf, which supports three O'Fallon Elementary Schools: LaVerna Evans, Hinchcliffe and Marie Schaefer. Every week of the school year, Operation Top Shelf prepares bags of groceries that are discreetly slipped into these at-risk children's backpacks. The FBCO Women’s Ministry collects items for Operation Top Shelf during the school year (September - May). Collected items may be dropped off at the Welcome Center in the Atrium.
